Recess by Perkins Bacon, second consignment 1861: 4 d. vermilion, wmk. Swan sideways, perf. 14 at Somerset House, a used vertical pair, centred to top and cancelled by two strikes of scarce Bowra circle and bars numeral "18" obliterator of Bunbury in blue. A fine multiple Gi = £ 400+.

Recess by Perkins Bacon 1861: 4 d. vermilion, wmk. Swan sideways, perf. 7½ to 14, an unused example of fine fresh colour, perfs. perhaps slightly nibbed at top, unused without gum, but in this describer's opinion a very fine example of this elusive and rare stamp Gi = £ 1'900.

1888: 1 d. carmine-rose, 2 d. grey and 4 d. red-brown all overprinted "SPECIMEN" in black (Samuel type WA1), together with 1865 1 s. bright green and 1884 6 d. lilac (2 examples, one with handstamp "SPECIMEN" double), all as sent to the UPU on the first presentation of Western Australian adhesives in November 1889, fresh and fine, large part og. Also a later 1 d. carmine handstamped in black and 1902 8 d. apple-green and £ 1 brown-orange with four ring presentation cancels. Scarce group Gi = £ 800.

Colour Changes, Recess by De La Rue from Perkins Bacon Plates 1864/65: 4 d. carmine and 6 d. violet, wmk. Crown CC, perf. 12½, used on 1867 single rate cover endorsed "Marseilles" to Oswestry, England tied by "Perth / GPO" duplex in black (April 27). Carried on "Avoca" to Galle, the "Surat" to Suez, from Alexandria on the "Syria" to Malta and Marseilles; reverse with Oswestry arrival cds (June 15). Minor opening tear at top but an attractive cover at the more expensive rate via Marseillles - 4 d. more than the "via Southampton" all sea route.

1859: 6 d. golden bronze, imperforate, a used example (Type 1) with large if uneven margins all round, used on 1859 cover endorsed "via Southampton" to London, tied by Bowra circle and bars numeral "8" obliterator in black with corresponding "FREEMANTLE / WESTERN-AUSTRALIA" double arc datestamp of despatch at left (July 15) in black. Carried on P&O Line on the "Northam" to Port Louis (Mauritius) and Suez (Aug 28) and from Alexandria on the "Ceylon" to Southampton with "London / Paid" cds in red (Sept 19). Readdressed upon arrival to Maidenhead, Bucks (Sept 20) with arrival on reverse. Two file folds well away from the adhesive, a fine and very rare cover.

Note: The contents are from a commercial agent, Henry Carter, referring to various shipments of horses to London and Madras and copper ore from Champion Bay.
