La Ville D'Orleans departed Nov. 24 1870 at 11:30 PM, first franked with 20c blue (33) cancelled "A.R.A.M." in lozenge on folded letter sheet bearing L'ARMÉE DE RHINE 23 NOV 70 c.d.s., air dropped to Merthien Maufaire; second, a balloon letter sheet postmarked PARIS 23 NOV 70, lost its stamp when the balloon ultimately fell into the North Sea; it was recovered and bears MARSEILLE 15 DEC 70 receiver. A fine exhibition pair, Roumet Cert. (2006) for Military cover.
