Postmaster's Provisional 1845/46: 5 c. black on greyish wove paper, a horizontal pair with large margins all round, used on 1847 cover from New York to Pittsburgh, PA, for the over 300 mile rate, cancelled by barred red grill handstamp in red, lightly initialled by Alonso Castle Monson in blue ink with "ACM" connected which ties the pair to the cover; curved "PAID" adjacent and "NEW YORK / 6 JAN / 10 cts." datestamp at right in red. Confederate States 1861/62: Cover selection (6) with 1861 5 c. olive-green, Stone 1 used with 1862 5 c. blue on cover to Augusta tied by PETERSBURG / Va" cds (June 17) in blue - a rare combination usage; 1862 Davis 5 c. deep blue, a single example in a rich shade tied "PETERSBURG / Va." cds in blue to Raleigh, NC; 5 c. blue in a horizontal pair used on 1862 cover to Col. Duncan at Jackson, Miss. tied by "MONTICELLO / Mi." cds; March 1862 10 c. rose on cover to Spartanburg tied by "COLOMBIA / Sc." cds in blue (signed Stanley Ashbrook on reverse) and a similar 10 c. used on cover; and a 10 c. carmine used on slightly tatty cover. City Despatch Post 1842: 3 c. black on greyish, a fine used example with large even margins all round, on entire letter to a Miss Violetta Marsh, 22 Wooster Street, New York tied by circular "CITY DESPATCH POST"datestamp (Feb 13) in red, under a fortnight after the issue of the first adhesive stamp of the United States. Delightful Valentine's Day message inside "To Violetta, I love thee for thy innocent and unaffected pride, I love thee for that sweet content, which ever seems thy guide, I love thee for that smile of thine and for thy words of truth, and for thine eyes that brightly shine, thy beauty and thy worth". Some minor file fold splits but a charming and rare entire.

1847: 5 c. red-brown on blued paper, the cover selection (5) with 1849 entire letter to New York tied in red with "Binghampton" cds (Feb 5) below; 5 c. brown on blued used on 1850 entire letter from Philadelphia to Potter County, PA cancelled in blue (Sept 2) and a similöar 1849 cover to New Jersey; 1850 entire to the Mexican Consul in New York with 5 c. cancelled in red with Baltimore cds in red at left (May 14) etc. Generally fine, the adhesives all with four margins, a good lot Scott = $ 2'500+.

New York City Despatch 1842/45: Covers (3) with 3 c. black on light blue wove paper, a fine large margined example on cover cancelled by octagonal "U.S" in orange-red with double lined "CITY DESPATCH POST / US" (Sept 2, 6 o'clock) cds in red - second day of use of this adhesive issued under U.S. authority; 3 c. black on blue glazed paper, a fine used example on circa 1845 cover to Portsmouth. Va cancelled octagonal "U.S" in red with New York cds below (Feb 25) in red and rated "20 c." in manuscript; third item with 3 c. on green glazed paper used on re-backed front to Jefferson County tied by octagonal handstamp in red with both City Despatch Post and New York cds's (Nov 11 and 12). Condition varies but a rare trio Scott = $ 4'500.

Confederate States 1862 (March): 2 c. pale yellow-green, a used example tied to cover to Mayfield by "ATHENS / Ga." circular datestamp (Feb 26) in black paying the circular rate; the cover turned and re-used franked by 1863 10 c. blue, Die B, faults tied by "MAYFIELD" cds in black probably a year or so later. The envelope sensibly folded to show both uses - the 2 c. being a very rare stamp on letter and especially so in this shade. Signed Molesworth on reverse Scott = $ 3'500.
