1847 (September 14): Entire letter, franked with two single 1847 5 c. red brown, mostly good to very large margins all around, tied by neatly-struck circular grid cancels, postmarked Philadelphia / 10 Cts, to Gouda, "Near Rotterdam", manuscipt "120" (Dutch) cents due, endorsed to be carried via Cunard "Boston Steamer / Caledonia 16 Sept", arrived in Liverpool September 29, with same-day backstamp, struck on back with two-line "Engeland / over Rotterdam" in red, Gouda receiver (Oct 3) one adhesive with small wrinkles at base from placement on cover, a scarce doubled franking. 1868 (April 18): Wm. M. Tunno & Co's Weekly Market Report, printed circular from Savannah, Georgia to Amsterdam, franked with 2 c. black "F" Grill pair, cancelled with blue circle of wedges fancy cancel and Savannah cds, paying the 4 c. Newspaper rate rather than the 8 c. book rate, thus struck SHORT PAID in black and "4" (cents) debit in blue crayon, "20" Dutch cents due, backstamped with blue triangular "1½ c / Amsterdam" tax mark, "April 1868" docketing not contemporary, some separation along an internal fold, a fine and desirable cover.

1866 (28 November), cover from New York to Sluis, Holland, franked with two 1861-7 10c green and single 1c blue, perforated 12, each centrally-cancelled with black target, correctly prepaying the rate to England, postmarked Marion NY, New York AM PKT (1 Dec), carried by the North German Lloyd ship "Bremen", struck in black with two-line "PAID-ONLY / TO ENGLAND", London (13 Dec) and Sluis cds backstamps, some hinge remnants on reverse, upper left corner fault, else fine.

1849 (May 11): Entire letter, franked with two 1847 5 c. red brown, mostly good to large margins, left stamp touched at top and bottom frameline, tied by two strikes of blue “10”, sent from Charleston, South Carolina to Amsterdam, Holland, manuscript 1/4d. British due marking and manuscript "100" (Dutch) cents at centre, struck with circular blue “Wilmington & Raleigh RR” route agent’s mark, sender’s “p. America & New York” route directive, carried via the Cunard “America” which left New York on May 15, arriving in Liverpool on May 28, with transit cds and two-line “Engeland / Over Rotterdam” backstamps, small tear at top, a scarce cover. A most unusual usage.

New York City Despatch 1842/45: Covers (3) with 3 c. black on light blue wove paper, a fine large margined example on cover cancelled by octagonal "U.S" in orange-red with double lined "CITY DESPATCH POST / US" (Sept 2, 6 o'clock) cds in red - second day of use of this adhesive issued under U.S. authority; 3 c. black on blue glazed paper, a fine used example on circa 1845 cover to Portsmouth. Va cancelled octagonal "U.S" in red with New York cds below (Feb 25) in red and rated "20 c." in manuscript; third item with 3 c. on green glazed paper used on re-backed front to Jefferson County tied by octagonal handstamp in red with both City Despatch Post and New York cds's (Nov 11 and 12). Condition varies but a rare trio Scott = $ 4'500.

Confederate States 1862 (March): 2 c. pale yellow-green, a used example tied to cover to Mayfield by "ATHENS / Ga." circular datestamp (Feb 26) in black paying the circular rate; the cover turned and re-used franked by 1863 10 c. blue, Die B, faults tied by "MAYFIELD" cds in black probably a year or so later. The envelope sensibly folded to show both uses - the 2 c. being a very rare stamp on letter and especially so in this shade. Signed Molesworth on reverse Scott = $ 3'500.

File fold affects the adhesive and slight staining but a scarce cover Scott = $ 300.
