1925/52: Group of ten covers sent from Tristan da Cuhna bearing various examples of the undated circular cachet marks in violet including scarcer. Almost half are unstamped. The majority sent to England, although noted one to USA, South Africa and Scotland, with four covers that have tax marks and two with postage dues added. Whilst many are apparently philatelic there are three which appear to be of genuine postal use. Condition varys, although some fine cachet strikes. A scarce and valuable assembly.

1905-18 cover with violet strike of cachet I 'TRISTAN DA CUNHA' weakly inked as usual, to England, sl roughly opened. (Cover addressed to Mrs Gertrude Anderson, & according to earlier owner's research, was carried on the Norwegian ship 'Trio' which called at Tristan on 11 December 1917. It was sent by Agnes Glass on 26 Nov 1917 to Gertrude Anderson thanking her for a parcel she had sent to the island, & giving details about herself & the island, which was then published by Mrs Anderson in 'The Times' on 1 January 1918. While that original letter is not present here, the lot contains a letter written by Mrs Anderson to J. Faulkner, apparently in response to 'The Times', relating to a philatelic enquiry about Tristan). SG C1 cat £4000. Very rare early cover. 2024 Ceremuga photo cert. (P)
