Large Star, imperforate, a used horizontal pair with exceptional margins all round, used on March 1856 cover to Lewes, Sussex tied by "11" numeral obliterators of Port Ahuriri in black with manuscript notation of sending on reverse "P.O. Ahuriri 1/3/56". Charged "6" (pence) to pay upon arrival with London cds (July 21) and double arc Lewes arrival of the same day on reverse. Type II with inverted watermark, some examples with faults, but a chiefly fresh and fine collection, a useful nucleus for expansion into a specialized study of printings. Kiwi perforation varieties (3), the Official overprints filled from 1915/6 issues to 1940, strong Life Insurance issues with 1902/47 printings missing only the rare 2 d. brown-red, chiefly mounted until the 1920's, mixed thereafter until the end of the reign of King George VI, unmounted thereafter, the odd trivial flaw to be expected among the Victorian issues, but overall replete with fine and fresh stamps, a lovely collection, which took great effort to assemble.
