Yanam 1887: India ½ a. blue-green popstal stationery envelope used to Orleansville, Algeria cancelled by "YANAM" cds (Dec 29) in black. Underpaid and struck with framed "POSTAGE DUE / 5 annas" in black with circular "T" mark at right. Taxed again on arrival in Algeria with 30 c. black pair tied by manuscript cross. Reverse of cover with nine transit or arrival (Feb 2, 1888) datestamps. An unusual usage.

British P.O. 1865: India 8 p. mauve and 1866 4 a. green (Gi. 57+69) used on 1869 entire letter to London paying the ½ ounce rate, tied by "Pondichery / 111" duplex in black (Oct 10). Carried by rail to Bombay (Oct 17) to connect with P&O "Behar" to Suez, thence on the "Delhi" from Alexandria to Marseille. 'London / Paid' arrival in red (Nov 15). A fine and attractive entire.

Mahé 1872/77: Cérès 5 c. green on blued and 25 c. blue in a horizontal strip of three, used on 1875 cover from Pondichery endorsed "via Alexandria" to Mâcon, France tied by three superb strikes of the lozenge of dots and fine "INDE / MAHE" circular datestamp (Sept 13) all in red. Carried from Bombay on P&O steamer "Mongolia" via Aden to Suez, with oxidised "Paq. Angl. / Alexandrie" transit datestamps on obverse (Oct 2) in red and reverse with arrival cds (Oct 12). A very rare cover. Signed Brun, Roumet. Cert. Behr (2007).

Reverse with Cuddalore datestamp of transit (Sept 29), Tranquebar transit cds (Oct 6) and Mauritius arrival cds (Nov 22) in blue where charged due with fine "6d. / TO PAY" in blue. A scarce and fine cover.

Chandernagor 1877/79: Type Sage 25 c. ultramarine, a used example with clear to large margins all round, on 1880 entire letter to Bordeaux endorsed "Via Bombay & Brindisi" tied by faint "INDE / CHANDERNAGOR" cds (April 28) with superb strike alongside in blue. Carried on the P&O "Verona" from Bombay to Suez with "Col Fr. V. Brind / A Mod" transit (May 18) in red. Bordeaux arrival cds on reverse of a scarce entire.

Yanam 1895: India ½ a. green postal stationery envelope used with "YANAM" squared circle to Pondichery, and 1 a. on 1½ a. blue postal stationery card, corner nick, similarly cancelled YANAM mailed to Berne, Switzerland. The small settlement of Yanam still only holds 35'000 people and is still referred to as French Yanam. A scarce pair.

"Tranquebar" transit in red above (July 16) and struck oin arrival with fine "6d. / TO PAY" in blue. Reverse with Mauritius arrival (Aug 22) in blue. Small acid ink fault but an attractive usage.

From Alexandria, carried on the "Ceylon" to Brindisi and thence by rail with Bordeaux arrival (Jan 26) on reverse. An unusual usage from this small Settlement. Cert. RPSL (2009).

Steamer via Suez, via Marseille", tied by "Pondichery / 111" duplex in black (July 25) with "Pondicherry" cds at right of the same day. Short paid 2 annas 8 pies, and struck with framed "INSUFFICIENT" in black. Madras transit and thence carried on the P&O steamer "Simla" to Galle and Suez. On arrival in London (Aug 27) struck with circular "MORE / TO / PAY" in black and charged "10" pence due to pay. Minor wear but a most attractive and scarce entire.
