General Nivelle. 1916 (July 9) Stampless F.M cover from Paris with "2 ARMEE / LE GENERAL COMMANDANT" cachet, signed "Gnl. Nivelle", to his wife in Besancon. Nivelle commanded the French 2nd Army at the Battle of Verdun, was promoted to C. in C. of the French armies on the Western Front in December 1916 but was replaced in May 1917 following major mutinies in the French army.

Russia/Georgia. 1916-21 Covers comprising 1916 cover to London with "PART OF A MAIL CAPTURED / BY GERMANS AND DELAYED" cachet; 1917 registered cover from Baku; and 1920-21 registered covers (5) from Tiflis or Tibilisi to the British Trade Corporation in Constantinople bearing various 1919-20 issue Georgia stamps (one cover with one stamp removed); another 1920 cover with "BRITISH CONSULATE / BATOUM" cachet and A.P.O Y1 skeleton c.d.s with Georgia 1919 40k uncancelled block of eight (a further two stamps torn away) on the reverse; also a single Georgia 1920 5r with part A.P.O Y1 skeleton datestamps.
