1851: 12 c. black, plate 1, two horizontal pairs, good to large margins except the right pair touching along the left frame line, tied to undated cover to London by Philadelphia cds and red "Phila Am Pkt 6" exchange mark, manuscript "Steamer Pacific" at upper left, both pairs with small marginal flaws, some overall light creasing, otherwise very fine and eye-catching.

Africa / Open mail via Ostende", London transit (17 Dec) struck on front, Amsterdam arrival backstamp (19 Dec), horizontal fold, an unusual franking and desirable routing.

York to Liverpool", carried on the Cunard "Africa", which departed New York on November 20, arriving in Liverpool on December 2, with corresponding backstamp, good oval "ENGLAND / OVER OSTENDE", and Amsterdam (4 Dec) backstamps, filing folds, wax seal cut from back, otherwise fine.

1847 (September 14): Entire letter, franked with two single 1847 5 c. red brown, mostly good to very large margins all around, tied by neatly-struck circular grid cancels, postmarked Philadelphia / 10 Cts, to Gouda, "Near Rotterdam", manuscipt "120" (Dutch) cents due, endorsed to be carried via Cunard "Boston Steamer / Caledonia 16 Sept", arrived in Liverpool September 29, with same-day backstamp, struck on back with two-line "Engeland / over Rotterdam" in red, Gouda receiver (Oct 3) one adhesive with small wrinkles at base from placement on cover, a scarce doubled franking. Newspaper rate rather than the 8 c. book rate, thus struck SHORT PAID in black and "4" (cents) debit in blue crayon, "20" Dutch cents due, backstamped with blue triangular "1½ c / Amsterdam" tax mark, "April 1868" docketing not contemporary, some separation along an internal fold, a fine and desirable cover.
