Lot 1620 - g.b postal history machines - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal HistoryAzemar Letter. 1868 Entire letter from London to Hamburg franked 6d, with the senders cachet "J.C AZEMAR / 42 ST MARY AXE / LONDON" on the front, the enclosed letter concerning wine signed by Azemar. Azemar later produced his famous cancelling machine, which was trialed in London in 1869 and again in 1871-72. An interesting associated item. Lot 1631 - g.b postal history machines - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1934 (Nov 2) Cover to Sir Stephen Tallents at the GPO with 1934 11⁄2d tied by the London machine with "OPENING OF MOUNT / PLEASANT SORTING / OFFICE BY T.R.H THE / DUKE & DUCHESS OF YORK", containing the original insert card showing the Sorting Office, with the printed explanation "this card was passed through the postage stamp cancelling machine by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of York ...". Very small tear at upper edge, otherwise an exceptionally fine example of this scarce machine, very uncommon with the enclosed card. Lot 1621 - g.b postal history machines - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal HistorySlopers. 1870-82 1⁄2d Postcards with sloper punch cancels including clips of Manchester (5), unusual ‘pliers cut’ of Manchester, clip apparently used in London in 1882, arrows of Liverpool (8, with missing pins varieties, one an inverted cancel in the lower left corner), arrows of London (5, one with a double cancel), circular punch hole of Bradford (3) or Liverpool (3, one a very early use on 8 October 1870), also examples of the arrow cancel taken at 1950 P.H.S meeting (2), and c.1920 sloper advertising card bearing three perforated stamp size labels showing overprints (2) or a perfin. Lot 1627 - g.b postal history machines - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1910 Post Office O.H.M.S envelope bearing a proof impression of a continuous Krag machine with the place name omitted, one die with the time and date "11.45 AM / 7 MAR 10", the other die simply with the time 11.45 AM and a cross below, thick vertical bars at either side of each die head. The upper left corner torn where the cover has been removed from an archive, otherwise fine and unusual, marked "Trial - No Place Name". Also proof impressions on separate pieces of the continuous Krags from London E.C (Nov 26 10) and London F.S (Nov 23 10) both endorsed with notes, and a cover bearing the London F.S Krag. (4). Lot 1628 - g.b postal history machines - Argyll Etkin Ltd Worldwide Stamps and Postal History1912 (Jan 29) Picture postcard to France with red "LONDON E.C / 1d POSTAGE PAID" applied by the experimental Wilkinson 1d in the Slot machine with the London E.C 172 c.d.s (2.15PM), the machine mark only valid on internal mail, a 1d stamp therefore added and tied by London E.C 161 c.d.s (2.30PM). The message in French explains the need for a stamp, suggesting the overseas address was noted at the time of posting and the sender informed and asked to purchase a stamp.
