1873: 6 d. grey, plate 12, two singles, lettered DE and EE, with 1 s. green, plate 8, lettered PA, used on cover, from Manchester to Caracas, Venezuela, dated 16 January 1874, tied by the '498' upright barred oval of Manchester in black, with a Manchester Paid double circle in red alongside, endorsed 'Via Southampton'. Has two vertical filing creases, one which runs through the second 6 d. grey. Scarce cover, especially at the 2 shilling rate.
Note: The transition from white to coloured corner letters extended over several years, with mixed franking occuring often. However, just twelve 6 d. grey/1 s. green (coloured letters) usages are recorded.
