Lot 699 - western europe and colonies italian kingdom: foreign mail - HA HARMER sa Auction #17ITALY - United States, 1933, the famous "MAYOR" cover, franked by "Crociera Nord.Atlantica" triptych 5,25 +44.75 Lit. overprinted SERVIZIO DI STATO. Bearing no registration label, as the others sent from the Podesta, and perhaps due to the departure date being May 29, the cover was not delivered to the PO of the Trans-Atlantic crossing but sent to Torino & Genoa for transmission via Ocean liner. The lack of New York arrival due to the fact that it was not sent as Registered. The original letter included, however bears an arrival cachet applied by the secretary of the Mayor of New York, 'RECEIVED-June 8, 1933-THE MAYOR'. All of the other covers sent from Senator Giorgio Pitacco to the Mayor's office in NY via the Balbo Transatlantic crossing bear an arrival marking of NY July 20, making this cover via Ocean liner much earlier (6 weeks). An absolutely incredible item of Aero-Philately and possibly unique, F. Longhi AIEP certificate. Sassone A1 HA HARMER sa Auction #17western europe and colonies italian kingdom: foreign mail |
