Lot 2402 - polen - Corinphila Auction AG Auction 333-341 Europe & Overseas - Day 6Woldenburg POW Camp (Oflag II-C) 1942 (Nov 8/11): The set of three imperforate Essays prepared as a competetive entry during the Philatelic Exhibition held in the Camp, in order to find new designers; three lino-cut designs inscribed "1492-1942" with 5 f. in deep blue showing the "Santa Maria", 10 f. brown showing the Capitol Building in Washington and 20 f. black showing a contemporary US Destroyer, the prize won by the designer Pazda - although the German authorities were none too happy as the US was by then at war with Germany. Lot 2403 - polen - Corinphila Auction AG Auction 333-341 Europe & Overseas - Day 6Woldenburg POW Camp (Oflag II-C) 1942 (Nov 28): The fine group of Essays and the issued stamps designed by Marian Stepien, the so-called "Torch" stamps commemorating the 1862 Uprising against the Russians; with Imperforate lino-cut Essays for proposed 5 f. in black, 10 f. in blackish purple and 20 f. in scarlet; further stamps as issued for 5 f. in carmine-red, one on piece the other used; 10 f. design in green on white wove (unused and used), a rare Essay or early example in pale turquoise-green rouletted at base (created from the margins of "Volkischer Beobachter" newspaper) and a further example optd. in red "5.2.1943"; and issued 20 f. bluish-purple "Torch" design unused and used examples on white or brown paper. Lot 2405 - polen sammlungen - Corinphila Auction AG Auction 333-341 Europe & Overseas - Day 61860/1960: Convolute - Two old-style part-collections, one featuring a nice 'Number 1', both with a substantial number of better sets and souvenir sheets, unused and used , including Port Gdańsk, Generalgouvernement, etc. Additionally, there are two large format stockbooks - one containing a good selection of Groszy surcharges, mostly used on pieces, and more Port Gdańsk material, while the other includes souvenir sheet 'Number 1' used and various exile issues. A pack with stockbook pages holds densely arranged official and postage due stamps, alongside even more Port Gdańsk. Also included are two remainder or starter collections. Lastly, a box full of stock cards, two smaller stockbooks, covers, glassines, souvenir sheets, philatelic and commercial mail - offering much to explore. A desirable and intriguing lot, though the notorius overprints from Kraków, Gniezno, and most local issues should be considered as doubtful, at least for the higly quoted positions.
