c.1890 Postcard with printed heading "DISTRICT MESSENGER CARD", a boxed square in the upper right corner containing the words "SWIFT" and "SURE" and depicting a running messenger, addressed to "Lord Lilford, 18 Princes St., Cave Sq., W". The printed message informs the public that the company will in future only be supplying tickets at their offices, a result of the extremely heavy royalties imposed upon their business by the Post Office. Clearly the Post Office had prosecuted the company for running an illegal postal service, as they did with the Court Bureau and Circular Delivery Companies. An unusual item.
Suggested price: £ 80-100
