Bermuda/Ceylon. 1902 Bermuda 1⁄2d postal stationery postcard from a Boer P.O.W on Morgans Island to a P.O.W at Diyatalawa, cancelled at Hamilton with blue circular "PRISONERS OF WAR / PASSED / CENSOR / BERMUDA" and circular framed "T". A boxed "AMOUNT TO BE / COLLECTED RS (6cts)" applied at Colombo, with a Diyatalawa c.d.s and censor cachet. A very unusual underpaid card from Bermuda. Photo on Page 71.

LT. SECTION / LONDON POSTL SER." arrival c.d.s (Sep 25); July 28 card from Turkey to G.B with "ZURUCK! / Keine Beforderungsgelegenheit" cachet but delivered on Sep. 4th; July 31-Aug 21 covers and cards from G.B to Germany with boxed or unboxed "UNDELIVERABLE / L.P.S" (4, one with R.L.O envelope); similar 1915 cover with "UNDELIVERABLE / (ENEMY COUNTRY) / RETURN TO SENDER"; and Sep 1914 card from Bourdeaux to Ardennes with Tours "Lieu de Destination Envai" machine. War of the Grand Alliance. 1696 (Feb 7) - 1797 (June 4) Entire letters charged 8d to London all with Bishop Marks, one inscribed "fro Rotterdam" in another hand. The letters comprise: Ghent, 7 Feb 1696 - ‘Mr Hill has received orders from the King and States of Holland to break the Cartell with the French unless they return some French Officers whom they took at sea going for England and have sent to the Gallies’; Camp at Bass Waver, 8 June 1696 - ‘Yesterday I came here with three Battalions of Guards from the Camp near Ghent and find the army here to be now composed of eighty one Regiments of Foot and one hundred and fifty six squadrons of Horse & Dragoons making in all about 7000 men. The Duke of Wirtenberg lyes at Dermond with 22 Rgts of Foot and the Prince of Vaudemont at the Canall of Bridges’; Camp near Brussells, 4 May 1797 - ‘as soon as (the English Horse and Dragoons) arrive the whole will march to Waterloo where a magazine of forrage is laid up’; Camp at Bois Seignour Isaac, 12 May - ‘the Siege of Ath goes on and the enemy have secured the passes from Mons to the Skeld’; Camp at Bois Seignour Isaac, 5 May - news from a Drummer sent to Mons for some soldiers that were taken prisoner; Camp at Promelles, 4 June - news of troop locations, the surrender of Ath and siege of Barcelonias by the French. An interesting correspondence. (6).

British Somaliland. 1903 (Sep 13) Cover to England, posted unstamped with an "F.P.O 44" backstamp, endorsed "active service, no stamps available, R.W Townsend, Capt., 2 / K.A Rifles". Most unusually an Indian 1a stamp has been added in transit at Berbera, tied by the Base Office Berbera c.d.s, also backstamped at Aden and Plymouth. Light vertical folds and minor opening tears to upper edge but still a scarce and unusual campaign cover.

Canada 1901 1c Postal stationery postcard cancelled violet "ROYAL REVIEW / EXHIBITION PARK CAMP / OCT 11 1901 / TORONTO / ARMY POST OFFICE" with oval "ENQUIRY OFFICE / OCT 18 1901 / POST OFFICE, TORONTO", locally addressed, very fine. This A.P.O cancel used on this one day only, for the military review in front of the Duke of Cornwall and York, during which South Africa war medals were presented.
