 Lot 7150 - Overseas Chile - Corinphila Auction AG Auction 321 - 332 Romania – Special Catalogue, Worldwide Rarities – The ERIVAN Collection – 2nd Auction, Schweiz & Liechtenstein - Day 5British Post Office 1871: Lettersheet with large part contents, franked with Great Britain 2d. blue (corner faults) and 1s. green, plate 4, both tied by "VALPARAISO PAID AU 30 71" duplex, addressed to Germany, endorsed "via Magallanes & England" and for this route correctly franked, red "LONDON PAID" and oval "PD" struck on front, Wissingen c.d.s. arrival backstamp (1 Nov), despite small faults an attractive and very rare letter; at the time the accompanying certificate was issued, only one further letter from Chile to Europe had been recorded taking the route via the Strait of Magellan. British share, arrival backstamp of January 18, 1857, a fine and scarce partially paid cover to Europe.  Lot 5396 - Overseas Chile - Corinphila Auction AG Auction 321 - 332 Europe & Overseas Asia / Africa, Europe A –Z, Collections & Accumulations - Day 41853 (July): 5 c. red-brown on blued and 10 c. deep bright blue in a horizontal pair, all with large margins all round, used on second page of 29 July 1853 entire letter to Valparaiso cancelled by three crisp strikes of the target obliterator in black. Straight line "SANTIAGO" below in black. Horizontal file fold with some ageing and the stamps have been lifted for checking and replaced, but a rare first month of issue usage. Signed Holcombe.
