Recess by Perkins Bacon 1861 (May 8): Perkins Bacon 1 d. rose-red, a horizontal strip of four and a horizontal pair of 6 d. yellow-green, used on 1861 cover to the Duke of Polignac in Paris endorsed 'per Royal Mail Steamer', all tied by six strikes of the Kingstown "A10" obliterator in black with '1/2d.' manuscript credit in red crayon below. Reverse with 'St. Vincent' despatch cds (Aug 24) in black and Paris arrival cds, 'London / Paid' transit on front with circular PD adjacent in red. Mentioned in 'St. Vincent' by Pierce, Messenger & Lowe on page 26 (cover #2). A wonderful and extremely rare first issue cover in the foremost quality.
