1840: 1 d. intense black, plate 1a, lettered HD, original re-entry position, used on cover dated 21 May 1840, from Northallerton to London, four good to large margins all round, showing re-entry marks below and in corner squares, with town dated and "CLEVELAND IN**" straightline handstamp in red alongside, tied by a double strike of a red Maltese Cross, soiled, horizontal filing crease well clear of adhesive, London arrival to reverse dated 23 May 1840 in red, scarce SG AS1b = £ 2'500+.
