1899 (April 24): Provisional ½ d. on 1 d. blue, wmk. NZ and Star, perf. 11, two single examples, a vertical pair and a horizontal strip of six, all used on 1899 cover (with New Zealand Arms embossed in red on reverse) to the Stamp Office in Auckland, tied by "Cook Islands / Rarotonga" datestamps (Dec 6) in black. Further despatch datestamp on reverse with Auckland arrival (Dec 14). Minor imperfections but a rare and attractive usage.

1901 (Oct 8): 1 d. brown overprinted ♚ in black, an unused block of nine (3 x 3), marginal from left of sheet, some age spots and without gum, but well centred for this stamp and a rare multiple of an elusive stamp. 1901 (Oct 8): 1 d. brown overprinted ♚ in black, a single example used on commercial cover with contents from Lieut-Colonel W.E. Gudgeon, the Resident Commissioner, to the Earl of Ranfurly, Governor General of New Zealand tied by "Cook Islands / Rarotonga" circular datestamp (March 3) in black. 1902: Torea ½ d. blue-green on medium white Cowan paper without watermark, perf 11, an unused vertical pair, marginal from base of sheet, variety "Imperforate Vertically Between", lightest of age spots on upper stamp otherwise fresh and fine, part og. A rare variety. Ex Tommy Allen Gi = £ 1'300.

1902 (Sept): Torea 2 d. deep brown, wmk. single lined NZ and Star, perf. 11, an unused example, corner marginal from the lower left corner of the sheet, variety "No Figures of Value", of rich colour, well centred and with large part og. 1913/19: ½ d. deep green and 1 d. red, perf. 14 x 14½, used on 1920 cover to San Francisco, USA tied by "Cook Islands / Rarotonga" circular datestamp (July 27) in black. Reverse with 'A.B. Donald, Limited / Rarotonga' sender's cachet in violet. Envelope wth small closed corner tear and aging but scarce. Ex collection Milo Rowell.

1919/20: Definitive set twelve values from ½ d. to 1 s., various perfs. and papers (see scan for Stanley Gibbons numbers in margin), and 1920 Pictorial definitive set of six, all defaced by blue crayon and handstamped SPECIMEN diagonally in black upon receipt by the Bechuanaland Post Office from the UPU. The ½ d. with small surface fault, otherwise fine for material from this archive, unique.

1920 (Aug 23): Perkins Bacon Die Proofs (2) for 1½ d. value, engraved in black with Frame Only Die Proof (66 x 61 mm.) and Captain Cook vignette only Proof (59 x 61 mm.) with pencil square surround in manuscript. Slight aging but a scarce pair.rnrnProvenance: DF, Geneva, 28 April 2009, lot 30179.
