HORSESHOE ROUTE With Italy entering WWII in June 1940 all routes across the Mediterranean were suspended. African routes were Cairo-Durban & then by ship to UK. Eastern routes to Australia went via Singapore until the fall of Singapore in February 1942. At which point the route stopped at Calcutta.
Karachi-Durban, 2a & 12a of India tied with Bombay 3 Jul 40 cds cancel. On plain cover. Air Mail label middle right. Boxed Not opened by Censor cachet. Addressed to Univerity of Cape Town. Flight WS3. No markings on the reverse. In excellent condition With notes. {C} [US1] (Start Price = £35.20)
