Lot 5657 - queensland - Corinphila Auction AG Auction 333-341 Nigeria, Cameroon, Sudan & Worldwide Postal History - Day 4

1860 (Nov 14): 6 d. green, wmk. Large Star, imperforate with close to large margins, imperceptibly touched frame at lower right corner and showing portion of adjoining stamp at right, of rich colour, used on 1860 cover from Brisbane to Axbridge, Somerset endorsed "Per Overland Mail", tied by BRISBANE / QUEENSLAND / QL duplex in black (Nov 14) - the fourth day of use for the first issue. Unrecorded in the Ben Palmer census, however this would represent the earliest recorded cover to the UK franked by a Queensland adhesive and most probably the earliest known usage of the first issue. Reverse with Weston Super Mare cds and Axbridge arrival cds (Jan 18, 1861). Some light overall soiling to be expected but an important and extremely rare cover. Cert. RPSV (2024). Note: See Besançon collection, Corinphila sale 221, lot 6147, for a piece bearing this adhesive used on the same day. Strangely, Nov 4, 1860 was a Sunday.
