Used to Sumatra: 1916, 5¢ blue, rotary coil, perfs in, tied by NEW YORK OCT 3 1917 duplex on interesting envelope (some faults) bearing HONG KONG NOV 2 transit, probably SUMATRA 14-11-17 receiver, then red manuscript "Returned to Java" (the recipient) was added, the mailing label was removed, a purple boxed PBO (?) was applied and re-addressed to "America Consul San Frisco", received S.F. Jan 16 1918 on front and added pencil manuscript "try 663 Mills Bldg" and finally blue Consulate General de Nederlands San Francisco receiver on reverse also a boxed A35 probably a consul docket. A war weary cover during a war weary world- the Armistice signed 10 months later. The stamp used on cover in itself is very rare, APS Cert. (1989) (Scott 458).
