British Post Office in Smirna 1911/13: Levant ½ d. green, 1 d. carmine-red and 1912 2 pi. on 5 d. dull reddish purple & blue used on registered 1914 cover tied by oval framed "REGISTERED / SMYRNA" datestamps (Sept 24) in black. The cover, mailed 6 days prior to the Post Office closing safely reached London where it was held for the duration of the First World War. Mailed on to Gand at the end of hostilities where it arrived on 5 December 1918 with manuscript "Cette envelope partir à Smyrne le 24 September 1914...." on obverse. An unusual item.
