1865: Royal Reprint 1 d. carmine-rose, Die II, plate 66, lettered LG-LH, an imperforate horizontal pair on Large Crown watermarked white paper, large regular margins all round, fine large part o.g. This LG-LH pair formerly adjoined the LI-LJ pair from the Arthur Hind collection (1934). The Royal Reprint was taken from the 1 d., Die II, plate 66 after it had been withdrawn from use. It is said (but not established without doubt) that the printing was made upon the request of the Royal Family for specimens of the 1841 One Penny red imperforate for the stamp collections of Queen Victoria's children. Just one single sheet printed of which only letterings from the horizontal rows 'F' to 'T' are recorded Gi DP35(b) = £ 4'500+.
Provenance: Collection Reino Poutianen, Stephen Walter, London, 21 March 1980, lot 333; Collection 'Great Britain The Line Engraved Issus 1840–1870', The Åke Rietz Collection, Corinphila 7 June 2023.
