lot # 1361 - Mauritius
Late Mail 1860: Mauritius 4 d. rose, a used example used on 1861 single rate entire letter from Port Louis to Launceston, Tasmania endorsed "pr. Parana" tied by "B53" obliterator in black. "Mauritius" despatch cds in black on reverse (Oct 7) with two very fine strikes of the Mauritius "TOO-LATE" handstamp in black (Proud I9) on obverse and reverse - the earliest recorded usage of this marking, the letter presumably missing the named Steamer. Framed "SHIP LETTER INWARDS FREE" of arrival (Nov 5) in red all displaying well. A rare entire to an unusual destination.
