1853 (Nov 1): Plate I, First State of the Plate, 4 d. bright red-orange, a used example showing superb well defined engine-turning of the surround, large even margins all round and of brilliant colour, on 1854 cover to Hobart Town tied by neat "59" obliterator of Launceston with LAUNCESTON despatch cds at left (July 26) in black. 'Paid' arrival (July 27) in red also on obverse of a very fine and extremely rare cover. Cert. RPSV (2024).

1853 (Nov 1): Plate I, Second State of the Plate, 4 d. pale orange, a used example with three large margins and just shaved along frameline at top of the stamp, on 1854 entire letter to Launceston tied by "64" numeral obliterator of Hobart on despatch. Oval despatch datestamp (July 24) in red below and reverse with Launceston arrival cds (July 25) in black. The adhesive slightly oxidised but a rare stamp on letter. Cert. RPSV (2024).

1853 (Nov 1): Plate II, Second State of the Plate, 4 d. dull orange, a used example with three large margins and just shaved along frameline at top of the stamp, on 1855 entire letter from Hobart to Glasgow tied by "61" numeral obliterator of Hobart on despatch. Circular "General Post Office / Hobart Town / ♚ / V-D-L" despatch datestamp (July 20) in red alongside. Reverse with "Australian Packet / Liverpool" cds (Nov 28) and Glasgow arrival where charged "6d." due in manuscript. Slight surface soiling as to be expected but a scarce usage. Cert. RPSV (2024).

Circular "PRE-PAID" datestamp (Jan 28) in red below and rectangular framed "PRE-PAID" arrival of the following day on reverse in red.

1857/67: Chalons, Recess Printed in Hobart from Perkins Bacon plates, selection of nine, imperforate, watermarked, a mix of examples with gum and without, a good representation of shades with 1d. (3, from brown to carmine), 2d. (2, shades of green and blue), 6d. (3, shades of violet, grey, and blue), and 1s. (1, quite fresh and with four margins), some small flaws, most with margins close to touching, a mostly fine-appearing group of these popular stamps.
