Niger Coast Protectorate 1894: Registration Envelope, 2 d. ultramarine set of three, size F, G, and H2, overprinted "NIGER COAST / PROTECTORATE" and with "CANCELLED" handstamp in black (F & G type 1 & H2 type 2a), written-up upon an album page. A fine and scarce group. Ex De La Rue archives (H&G C4-b).
Note: Although the unoverprinted envelopes were printed by McCorquodale & Co., the overprinting was undertaken by De La Rue. The 'Cancelled' handstamp is Samuel type GB14 and according to Samuel De La Rue were granted permission by the Inland Revenue to overprint 12 specimens of each of the postage and revenue stamps the company printed for the Inland Revenue.
