Aden Sub-Office at Dthali 1899: India Queen Victoria 3 p. aniline carmine, a single and the famous "Croft" block of four 1 a. carmine and 1902 Edward VII ½ a. green (2) all cancelled by circular "DTHALI" datestamps in black: the block beautifully cancelled "DTHALI / 26.MY.03" in the year the sub-Office opened, the ½ a. adhesives cancelled in Nov 1905 and 1906 respectively. A very rare group.
Provenance: Two ex collection J.L.R. Croft, RL Postal History sale 281/282, London, 11 Dec 1962: the block illustrated on the front cover of the catalogue.
