Despite as asserted by the major catalogs, a few specimens of these unissued stamps overprinted “SAND. Egypt, maritime disaster mail cover, sent from Alexandria on 19/3/1918 to Italy. The SS Kingstonian was torpedoed on 11/4/1918 by German submarine U-68 and damaged in Carloforte harbour (Sardinya). The mails were recovered. Linear "DAMAGED BY IMMERSION IN SEA WATER" applied. SCARCE COVER.

Egypt, maritime disaster mail cover, sent from Alexandria on 29/3/1918 to Italy. On 29/4/1918, during salvaged operations on the SS Kingstonian in Carloforte harbour, was torpedoed also the tug Dalkeith by German submarine U-48. This cover comes from the second salvaged after the second attack. Linear "NAUFRAGIO" applied. SCARCE COVER.
