1866: 4 r. brown-red, a horizontal strip of three in a rich dark shade, used in combination with 1865/67 ½ r. grey-blue and a horizontal pair of 1 r. yellow on 1870 legal cover to Ambato, all tied by five strikes of circular 'Quito / Franca' datestamp (Dec 14) in black. A splendid and extremely rare cover, the 14½ real rate would have paid for a 29 ounce letter and stirched correspondence. An outstanding and rare cover. Cert.
