French Post Office in Jaffa 1872 (Sept 23): Letter sheet from Jaffa to Marseille, bearing Napoléon laureated 80 c. rose, minor perf. toning, tied by Gros chiffres '5089' numeral of Jaffa in brownish red, clear “JAFFA SYRIE” cogwheel cds in the same shade, framed "P.P.", and "PAQUEBOTS DE LA MÉDITERRANÉE" handstamp in red alongside, reverse with “BEYROUTH SYRIE” transit and MARSEILLE arrival cds’s (Oct 11) in black. The brownish red shade of the cancellation ink was in use only for a few days.
