Late Mail 1878: 50 c. on 1 s. green and 1880 17 c. rose, used on 1883 cover at single rate from Port Louis to Bordeaux, tied by "B53" obliterators in black; UPU rate of 17 c. + 50 c. Late Fee. "Mauritius" code A cds (Jan 23) in black on reverse, carried on the Ligne T Paquebot "Godavery" from Port Louis to Aden, with octagonal "POSS. ANGL / PAQ. FR. N. No. 3" datestamp (Feb 5) in red applied on the arrival of the "Djemnah" in Aden (Salles fig. 1974). Marseille arrival cds (Feb 18) on reverse. A fine mixed issue franking and a scarce Late Fee usage.
Note: Late Fee regulations remained similar under decimalisation which scheduled the Late Fee surcharge as follows: between 2 and 2.30 pm = 25 c., 2.30 and 3.00 pm = 50 c. and between 4.00 and 4.30 pm the enormous charge of 2 rupees 50 c. was due.
