1870: Double rate Entire letter sent on the first day of the new tariff from Raismes to Valenciennes, bearing Bordeaux 5 c. green report 2 in mixed franking with Siège 20 c. blue, each stamp in a fine and fresh horizontal pair, each adhesive tied by Gros Chiffres '3077' numeral lozenge, despatch cds (Sept 1, 1871) alongside, reverse with arrival cds of the same day. An interesting combination to pay the new 50 centimes double rate introduced that day. As for the 25 c. single rate also for the double rate a combination of the Siège 20 c. with low face values was necessary to match the rate. Signed Hassel Basel; cert. von der Weid (1998).
