Lot 3166 - Belgium 1862 - UPA UPA Auction UPA 95Letter(Feb 9) from KING LEOPOLD I to Major General SIR EDWARD CUST, London. The letter is a black bordered mourning letter with the crest of Osborne House, Isle of Wight, Queen Victoria's retreat. Written shortly after Prince Albert's death in December 1861, while the King was staying with his niece Queen Victoria. Historically interesting because King Leopold was the uncle of both Victoria and Albert, who were cousins. Sir Cust had had a long association with Leopold having become equerry to him in 1816 and in 1855 awarded the Grand Order of Leopold.
