Romania, Hungarian Consular Post Office in Ploesti, Wallachia 1868c (May 10): Cover from Ploesti to Vienna, bearing pair 1867 coarse whiskers 5 s. red, an overall fine and fresh multiple, two nibbed perfs at top right of no importance, tied by neat PLOJESTIE cds in red (Tchilinghirian fig. 768). Reverse with "NAGY-SZEBEN" transit and WIEN arrival (May 15) datestamps. Horizontal file fold of no importance, an appealing usage of utmost rarity, paying five soldi in the special rate from Ploesti & Bottushan and five soldi for Austria. Signed Colla; cert. Ferchenbauer (2004) Ferchenbauer = LP.rnNote: Beginning in May 1867 six post offices in Valachia and Moldavia were controlled by the Hungarian postal administration, among these Ploesti. Already in March 1869, these offices were closedt ogether with the offices under Austrian administration , following an agreement with the Romanian postal administration. The lower values of the 1867 issue came into use at the end of June 1867. Ploestie is the only office which cancelled its adhesives in red, an elusive cancellation which can be found only during less than two years.rnProvenance: Collection Dr. Anton & Elisabeth Jerger, Corinphila sale 140 (May 2004), lot 891; Tomasini/Künzi Collection, DF sale (Dec 2006), lot 20283.
