1948, 9s 2d meter stamp 'MYER - GIFT PARCEL, Adelaide, 1.SEP.48' together with Myer Ltd. parcel label on large part of a parcel wrapping addressed to Drebkau in Soviet Zone Germany.
The vast majority of post WWII gift parcels from Australia were sent to Great Britain, for that purpose Myer Ltd. used the well-known but nowadays scarce stamped-to-order parcel labels with denominations 3s 7d and 5s 10d. These labels, however, did not match the parcel post rate to Germany and therefore an appropriate meter stamp had to be applied. Only very few of the stamped-to-order parcel labels used on gift parcels to Great Britain have survived - meter stamps used for the same purpose on gift parcels to Germany should be considered to be extremely rare or probably unique!
