Afghanistan, 1873 (Feb.), small native cover, franked with cut to shape 1 Sanar dated 1288, Plate IV, position. 5 (Scott 6, SG 7), tied by tear cancel and octagonal Jhelum receiver in red. Pindoadunkhan FE 18/73 transit in black with partial strike in green 'PESHAWUR CITY (REC'G) HOUSE/ FE 15. Lowe illustrates a similar strike from Kurrachee which is a Railway cancel and mentions use at Peshawar and Aurangabad. (RL Asia, p.517 (34)). Cover apparently traveled to the Afghan Post Office in Peshawar with only Afghan postage. No indication of postage due except for indistinct black triangle which appears to show the word 'Pay'. Interesting cover which needs research.
Estimate $300 - 400.
