1916, $1 violet black (478), top plate block of 6, o.g., hinge remnants (4 stamps never hinged), astounding quality plate block with ravishing rich color; a beautiful top position with both the left and right stamps in immaculate mint condition with the plate number single being a extraordinary showpiece with immense margins; of the 13 plate blocks that are known to exist this is right up there with the finest known examples; a beautiful plate in an extraordinary state of preservation, trivial pencil notation on reverse of bottom center stamp is of no consequence; slightly reduced selvedge, top left tab with tiny thin speck, otherwise Very Fine; 2014 P.F. certificate.
