1908, 1¢ green, Attleboro perfs, August 2, 1909, earliest documented cover (EDU) (Scott 343), tied to unsealed envelope by August 2 (1909) flag machine cancel of Attleboro MA, full perfs and notch at bottom, portions along top, a truly desirable and top line item for the private vending coil collector and the cornerstone of any such collection, Very Fine, very rare - one of two examples reported, 2000 APS certificate stating "used on earliest documented cover, 8/2/1909".

For a few months in the summer and fall of 1909 the Attleboro Stamp Company used an affixing machine to separate and affix stamps to its news letters ("The Attleboro Philatelist") and price lists. Although created by a stamp company the purpose was commercially inspired and used. Most of the known correspondence are on wrappers for the "Attleboro Philatelist", those on envelopes are quite scarce, this and one other sold in 1988 from Larry Cohen's collection are the only examples that we have seen with a dated flag machine cancel
