1858 (March 2): Envelope from Alexandria to Mississippi, USA struck on reverse with British P.O. ALEXANDRIA double arc cds in blue, London red transit cds (March 20) and 'Boston / Br. Pkt.' datestamp (April 11) in black. Front of cover with manuscript '1s.' (shilling) and '40' (cents) charge for Transatlantic rate (per Cunard Steamer 'America') and with Inland fee added, struck with '45' rate marking in black. A scarce destination for Egyptian mail at this date.

Note: Rate-1 shilling = 24 U.S. cents (British charge Alex-GB) + 8 d. = 16 cents British Ship rate + 5 cents inland delivery.
