Paid, F.A. Dentzel, AG:P.O., N.O. Clear strike of red oval route agent handstamp on folded letter datelined "Bayou Desglaze, July 13th 1851" to New Orleans, carried as endorsed by the "E.D. White", some light age spotting, Very Fine.
Estimate; $200 - 300.
The route went on the Atchafalaya River, Bayou Plaquemine and the Mississippi to New Orleans. On arrival Dentzel arranged for the letter to be delivered by a runner to the merchant G. Birk & Co. The "E.D. White" was a side wheeler of 248 tons built at Louisville Ky. in 1848. It was used on the Red River from 1850 to 1853 with Captain Eugene Brady as master.
