1907 (Oct 14) posting at Tösse Sweden (where retrieved) of The Daily Graphic produced postcard, dropped in a canister from Balloon over North Sea, pre-addressed to Sydney by sender, “T.” tax marking without sum expressed applied in Sweden, accordingly untaxed on arrival at Sydney Nov 8. The addressee states “Please forgive me sending this unstamped – the conditions of postage prevent it as there is no knowing in what country it will fall, & should it fall in a foreign country an English stamp will be useless.” [The Daily Graphic produced this postcard for carrying aboard the Balloon Mammoth, on its world record breaking long-distance flight, which commenced at the Crystal Palace, London, 14 October 1907. 15,000 postcards were carried in canisters, which were dropped from the air over the North Sea, with instructions to finders to facilitate onward transmission to the addressee indicated on the pre-addressed postcard.] One of three surviving postcards to Australia.
