Written on the day the ship reached the ice at McMurdo Sound with the message "We can now see the Discoverys masts. Capt. Scott is on the ice waiting to come on board as soon as we get made fast. He & Dr Wilson are together", posted three days after the ship returned to Lyttelton, with a N.Z 1d tied by Lyttelton squared circle (April 4), and a Christchurch arrival c.d.s.
