1840 (Oct. 4) Liverpool, England to New York N.Y. Datelined folded letter with red "Paid At / Liverpool" framed handstamp and matching Liverpool (10.4) backstamp, red manuscript "4/-" shilling transatlantic packet rating, sender's ms. "1½oz." notation at top with matching "£3, Paid at Lpool" inside docketing, endorsed "pr Acadia via Halifax" at top left, carried as endorsed by Cunard Line Acadia from Liverpool Oct. 4th to Boston arriving Oct. 17th, partial red "Boston Ms. 'Ship' Oct 17" cds and red manuscript "114½" rating to New York, Very Fine, This was the second voyage of the Cunard Line Acadia.
Estimate; $200 - 300.

The sender apparently prepaid three times the 1 shilling per ½ ounce packet rate, but the Liverpool post office corrected rated the cover at 4 shillings as there was no triple rate.
