lot # 1800 - confederate states of america postmasters' provisionals
Confederacy, Sumter, S.C., 1861, 10¢ black. Clear strike of "Paid" and circled "10" rating handstamps on homemade cover with military address to Corp. E.E. Durban, Beauford Volunteer Artillery, Care of Capt. T. Elliott, Pocotaligo S.C., Very Fine, ex-Bogg, with 1974 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 80XU2; Estimate $750 - 1,000.
Although used examples of this entire are indistinguishable from handstamped "Paid" covers, this cover clearly have a town cds in a different cancelling ink than the "Paid 10" rate markings. This is clearly an example of a proper provisional use.
