1900, two soldier's covers from China/Japan to Baltimore, Md., two Philippines 1900 2¢ Plimpton entires (U8), the first franked with Japan 10s blue tied by Nagasaki circular datestamp (22 Jul), backstamped Yokohama, San Francisco & Balto; the second franked with a pair of Japanese P.O. in China 1900 5s orange (10) tied by Tientsin I.J.P.O. circular datestamp (4 Aug), backstamped Moji, Japan, Yokohama, Vancouver & Baltimore; both reduced on one side, Fine. The pair of covers was sent by Captain Frederick L. Palmer to his wife. Palmer went on to become one of the world's foremost experts on the stamps of the Philippines.
