Long double page letter describing delays in marching, other news, viz. '…I have been given the appt. as adj't of the Behar Mounted Volunteers and have accepted it on condition that if the Reg't is ordered on active service I may be permitted to rejoin at once…I heard from (Gen'l. Massy) the other day - they are now in sight of Cabul & will I hope give a good acct of the wretches who murdered poor Cavagnari…' The British Resident in Kabul, Sir Louis Cavagnari and his escort, had been massacred on Sept. 3 inside the Residency after an 8 hour siege by mutinous Afghan troops.
