1844: Reduced cover from Panama to Madrid, dated 24 May 1844, endorsed 'P. a'la salida de Francia ½oz. 8m / Upana'', struck with fine and scarce French Consular datestamp "AME. SUD PANAMA" (24 May) and French Post Office in Panama "PANAMA / *" transit in red (9 June) also to reverse an additional strike of the French Consular datestamp in red and transit "ANGL. 2 BOULOGNE" (8 August) to front alongside a Spanish chargemark "13.R" in blue applied on arrival in Madrid, cover is front with part of backflap opened out for display, very rare combination.rnNote: The rarity of the Panama datestamp marking can be noted by Salles failing to find an example.rnProvenance: Ex Dr James Helme Collection.
