1840 2nd May Mulready One Penny Letter Sheet Stereo removed, addressed to Bromley, bearing a fine strike of 'Portugal St.1py P.Paid' in black and a clear d/stamp. 'P.D/MY 2/1840' with a superb strike on reverse of the shield type MY 2/1840 h/stamp in red, central vertical crease and some light soiling. A very good example of this very early date. Mulready Caricature John Doyle; large lithograph illustration (440 x 300mm) featuring Palmerston on the pedestal, inscribed 'foreign office,' Mr. O'Connell shouting 'Hurrah for Repeal' and an unhappy Lord Monteagle being read the ill success of his last financial scheme. The inscription at foot reads, 'Published May 26th 1840 by Thos McLean, 26, Haymarket,' some tone spots and peripheral faults. A very scarce caricature. Ex. Chartwell.
