1702 (Apr 27) Letter signed by Earl Pembroke, Lord High Admiral, sent to Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell at the Nore, informing him that four Scottish ships in the River Thames had their crews impressed and so were unable to proceed on their voyage to Scotland; Shovell was ordered to have all the impressed men returned to their ships and to give orders that in future no Scottish men are to be impressed from any ship belonging to the nation of Scotland. A fascinating document.
